***I had written this post up long ago and had scheduled it to post on Feb. 1st. Since we already know that the baby is a boy, there is no point in posting it. However - I thought it would still be fun to put out there just cuz old wives tales are fun to try out, anyway, even when they're wrong :) ***
Looking at the "fish hooks" in the whites of your eyes while pregnant should be able to help you predict what gender the baby is. Here is the blurb I read:
"What you do is look at the whites of the eyes. Get the pregnant woman to look upwards, as what you are looking for is two little blood vessels that appear below the iris. The blood vessels should look like little fish-hooks. There should be two of them, one at approximately 5 o'clock and one at seven o'clock. If they appear in the right eye, it's a girl on the way. If they appear in the left eye, it's a boy. If they appear in both eyes, you're going to have twins (one of each), though if you aren't having twins and the fish-hooks still appear in both eyes, then the girl option overides."
I looked at my eyes and saw some red squiggly veins, but no clear-cut "hooks." I also did not have the hooks right at a 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock. However, my right eye had some squiggles at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock. My left eye had a squiggle at 8 o'clock but no line at the 4 or 5 o'clock. So I guess, if I had to make a choice according to the (creepy) extreme close-up pictures I took of my own eyes, I'd say this baby is a GIRL.

This blog will consist of random ramblings. I'll gab about what is going on with the kids, the parents, the diets, the garden, and whatever else I feel like sharing.

Gender Prediction: Tests 4 and 5
I'm combining these two tests because they are very similar. You get a two-fer today!! Happy New Year!
Test 4: The ring test, aka: The needle test.
I think most people have heard of this prediction method. You take a ring and tie it to a string. (Or, you take a needle and thread it with a string.) You hold it above your abdomen and wait until it starts moving. If it swings back and forth the baby inside your womb is a boy. If the ring swings in circles it is a girl.
First, Biju and I wanted to test this male/female theory out. I took my ring and tied it to a piece of yarn. I held it over my hand and it swung in a circle. I then held it over Biju's hand and it swept back and forth. He thought maybe I was influencing the movement so he took the string/ring. As he held it we ended up with the same results. We decided to go for the tummy read. Truthfully, it didn't really move much. We wondered if it was too early to tell. (We did this test originally around 6 or 7 weeks along.)
At Thanksgiving my uncle took a needle on a string and held it over my tummy. He saw the needle move in a faint circle then stop. My SIL Jaime took over and got the same results - faint circle before stopping.
So the outcome of test 5 is: GIRL
Test 5: The gold chain test.
This one was actually fairly new to me. I read about it and immediately had to try it. Luckily I always wear my wedding necklace which is made out of gold!
What you do: Dangle a pure gold chain above your hand, palm up, and hold it as steady as you can. It will start moving on its own - back and forth for boy, circle for girl. The cool trick to this is that it will move then stop for each child you are having. I have done this numerous times and each time I get the same result.
Over my palm it swings back and forth (indicating Ajay), then there is another back and forth swing (indicating Alex) and then a circle motion, indicating that this next baby is a GIRL, then the chain stops moving.
The chain test is super fun to try - try it and see what you come up with! (And let me know in the comments section what your results are, please!)
Update - I originally typed up this post a month or so ago and since then I have tested this chain theory out on several other women. For the ones who were done having babies the theory held true for each of them! (We had a couple of misreads because children were bumping into us, but when the test was done again, it was right.) For three women it even told the gender of the babies that were miscarried. Then I really had fun with it and tested my niece. Turns out she's supposed to have three boys!! As a 12 year old girl, this thought isn't exactly thrilling. I guess we have quite a bit of a wait to see if the chain was right for her :)
WARNING: This is intended as a game, really. While it does seem to hold true please do not put full stock in this. Three of my cousins (aged 18 - 25) were quite disappointed in their outcomes and had me repeat the test over and over (each time we got the same result). One doesn't want children and is supposed to have 2, the other two cousins badly want children and neither are supposed to have them.
On the other hand, it is hard to get the results out of your head - I keep having to remind myself that there is still a chance that this baby could very well be a boy. And if you don't want to get the results stuck in your head, don't try this. (For example, I don't think I would've wanted to do this test when I first started having children - I'm happy I discovered this test when I did, at the end of my child-bearing journey.)

Gender Prediction: Test 3
Here is another fun way to predict gender:
A = Your age in the year the baby is due, regardless of before or after your birthday.
B = The month of your last period
If A minus B is even, it's a girl.
If A minus B is odd, it's a boy.
Ajay: His birth year, 2005, minus my birth year, 1978, equals 27. So 27 minus 8 (August) = 19 - an odd number. Odd # means BOY.
Alex: 2008-1978 = 30 - 5 = 25 - odd number means BOY.
This baby: 2011-1978 = 33 - 8 = 25 - odd number means this baby should be a BOY.
(I had to edit this because the first time I used 2010 to calculate, woops!)

Gender Prediction: Test 2
Time for another gender prediction. I was intending on posting this a few weeks back but as with all of my October posts, I'm way behind!
I read about a study that was done that placed a correlation between where the baby attaches to the uterus and what the gender is. Notice I say I read about the study - I tried reading through the study and I went a bit cross-eyed. To sum up what the idea is, you can make an educated guess as to what the gender is by looking at an early sonogram (7 wks or so). If the baby/placenta attaches to the left side of the uterus then the baby is a girl, if it is on the right side, it is a boy. So for any of you out there who had early sonograms, bust out your pics and take a look to see if it was right. Just remember when you're looking at your sono pics - if the ultrasound was done on your abdomen then it is a reverse image. Meaning if you see your baby on the left in the picture, then the baby was really attached on the right. Make sense? (If your u/s was done via the other method, then the picture remains true - left is left, right is right.) It is supposed to have 97% accuracy. I do have to say, though, that the last two pregnancies I tried to "guess" were wrong! I thought for sure that both Angie and Amy were having girls and the babies are very clearly boys!
So on to my guess about our current baby. (I didn't have early sonograms with either of the boys, so can't use any of their pics for comparison.) I started having some issues with this pregnancy that worried me enough to call my OB. The nurse got me in the next day for a sonogram just to check on the baby. Turns out everything was fine. Measurement was spot on (9 weeks, 1 day), heart rate was in the 170's (it is an amazing sight to see that little fluttering heart!) and the baby was attached on my right - so according to this gender prediction method, we're having a BOY.
I'd love to know if this method was true or not for any of your pregnancies (for those of you to whom this may apply!) - so please feel free to leave some comments!

Gender Prediction: Test 1
I thought it would be fun to do some gender prediction tests, test out some old wives tales, that sort of thing. There are quite a few ways of trying to determine the gender of a child. Some cost money - I won't be using those methods. Others just require clicking on a link, looking in a mirror or using some items around the house.
The first method I'm going to share with you all is the Chinese Gender Calendar. You figure up the mother's age at the time of conception, match that up with the month of conception, and this will tell you if you're having a boy or a girl.
According to this method, we are supposed to have a girl.
And in case any of you were wondering, I went ahead and put in the info for both Alex and Ajay. According to this method, they were both supposed to be girls.
So there ya go. One gender prediction test down, many more to go!
Have you ever used the Chinese Gender Calendar on your children? Was it accurate or way off base? I'd love to know - please leave a comment in the Thoughts Expressed section. (ByTheWay - you don't have to be the birth mother to check this info out - all you need to know is the mother's age and the month of conception, which is generally easy enough to figure out. Click on the above link and try it on any kid you know!)
